2008-2009 Pontiac G8 Standard & Automatic
Solo Performance is glad to release another unique exhaust kit to the G8 community. The G8 Axle-Back exhaust kit is a direct bolt on kit, it bolts onto the flange muffler connection of the stock Pontiac exhaust. Solo’s G8 Axle-Back exhaust kit is made of stainless steel and comes with J-pipes to eliminate the dreaded G8 drone. The tips are polished stainless steel, dual 3” staggered.
This kit was designed to be an affordable alternative to our full catalytic back exhaust kits. It sounds very similar to our full G8 Mach exhaust kit, it has a wonderful tone throughout the spectrum. We would recommend this exhaust kit for the customers who are looking for an incredible sound at a great price.
The four cylinder mode is low and “guttural”; Not many would call the 4cyl note pleasing but it does not drone and it certainly is bearable. The 8cyl mode has a rich, full, deep, aggressive tone. It was hard for us to believe this quality of exhaust note could be achieved with only an axle back replacement. This kit comes with gaskets and all necessary hardware.

Ok, just got back from my local Muffler shop. I could have done this myself, but didnt have the proper tools. The guy at the shop complimented the craftsmanship on this and said whoever built this did a great job.
This is exactly the sound I wanted for my car. A deep, refined rumble. WOT is BAD ASS and so far no drone of any kind.
This weekend I will post up some vids. Very happy customer here.
Wow, that had to be the easiest install ever! Seriously, a size 15 wrench or socket and a floor jack(optional). And the sound is a HUGE improvement. Not too loud at idle….just right.
I had breakfast recently with a friend who [ occasionally – in good weather ] drives a 2006 Corvette Coupe – with a Corsa cat back exhaust.
After we ate, I took him for a couple mile drive in my G8 GT with the axle-back Js. He said, at least twice, during the drive:
“I wish my car sounded like this!”
Interesting, to me.
The SOLO system is much more enjoyable, to me, than the system I had on my 2007 Corvette Coupe – and much less $$s than I had expected to spend for sound like this.
I would like to add that my Axle back J’s are freakin awesome. Note I created the new Solo marketing slogan.
“Loud enough for a man but soft enough for a woman!” or “Marriage Approved!”
My wife had no issues with dod or no dod.
Now I just need to sneak those high flow cats in there some how and I am home free. I just did a 2500 Mile round trip to florida with these awesome axel backs with 3 2-3 passengers in the car and a 71 year old drag racer. All I heard was wow that car sounds great, wow did this car come from the factory like this? I was in a rest area and we were drinking coffee and I started the car remotely and college kids were talking about the low rumble just @ idle.
Now I can tell you “no drone while traveling @ highway speeds” but when afm kicks in it does drone but not unbearable and if they made this noise all the time I would have been ok any how.
When you get on it @ hwy speeds it is really nice to hear the engine wake up! When I let off the throttle it gurgles and grumbles so nice! I am a happy camper do not hesitate to purchase these I am sure no other axel back sounds this good.
I just wonder how they will sound with the high flow cats? anyone have this setup yet?
Thank you Solo for such an awesome product.
Well folks, After a week or so of having the SOLO Axleback on I have to say I haven’t stopped smiling. Install took about 35 minutes, involving acquiring beer and everything.
Just put mine on yesterday and I must agree. These sound AWESOME!!!
I installed mine today. It was so easy, the sound is top quality.
Axle-backs took all of 20 minutes to install. The fit was perfect, and the sound is wonderful!
G8 Ogre GT
Got mine installed today. 3.5” tips, GXP diffuser, and exhaust shop talked me into and h-pipe as opposed to x-pipe. I didn’t epecially care which way i went as long as the mid muffler and resonators are out. The car sounds AWESOME!!! I was grinning ear to ear when i started it up. I was a little nervous with it that loud outside that it was going to be terrible inside. I was wrong, it is amazingly quiet considering that the only thing on it are the cats.
Steve you are the MAN!!! THis should be a requirement on all G8′s. If you have any doubt forget it put them in you will love them!!!
Thats one crazy thing on this exhaust. I can hear it better when the windows are up! With windows down the road noise kind of takes over. Unless I’m under a bridge or beside a barrier then windows down it sounds fantastic!
First off, I have to thank the guys who over and over told me to go SOLO. I got the package today at 2:00pm. After letting my eyes adjust from my eye appointment I decided to attempt the install myself in my driveway instead of waiting a week for muffler man and his lift. I grabbed a 15mm socket, gloves, and chrome polish.
Laid my cardboard down and wrenched off the old muffler assembly. Grabbed the SOLO and slid the hamgers in place and bolted her in with new gaskets. Adjusted j pipe over a bit and tightened. Tips were straight and no need for any shim or bending of hangers what so ever. Then it was the other side. It took me around twenty minutes which included me struting around car with my mechanic gloves on.
Then, the wife kid and i looked at each other. I said its time im nervous. The wife said here ill start it. Oh no big daddy climed in and turned her over amd the beast of the south east was born. Yes a new name. The beast of the south east II. The sound was music to my ears. SOLO couldnt have gotten it any better. Hats off to you.
The test drive was unbelievable with wife and six yr old in tow. Lets say they thought they were on a roller coaster. The best decision ive made yet. Solo axleback exhaust unleashed the beast!!
I have had mine on now for 2000 miles or so. The sound becomes richer and more refined in my opinion as the carbon deposits start to coat the inside.
